EDWARD EIDSON, the son of Edward and (unk) Eidson of Edgefield Co., SC, was married between 1775-1780 because the 1790 census lists him as Edward ITson with 3 W M -16 and with 4 W F--indicating 4 sons and 3 daus.-- and probably, with 6 children, married at least ten years, so if he was m. by age 20, this would indicate that he was b. at least by 1760 at which time the family was probably still in ,VA. His "name was omitted in the 1800 census and he died .in 1809. He m. DELILAH WATSON (1) whose parentage Is unknown at present. The 27 Jul 1793 Edward Edson (sic) bought 100 a. of land from Wm. and Sarah Holson/Holstun for £40 lawful money. The land was situated "in Edgefield ; Co. on Clouds Creek waters of Little Saluda being ,part of a larger tract of two hundred acres originally granted to Elijah Padget in 1773 and 'recorded in Grant Book No. 12 p. 44." (2) Witnesses were Josiah Padget and Moses Holston
Little more Is known about Edward until his death in 1809 and his estate appraisal authorization dated 30 Jan 1810 was ordered by Elijah Watson, Justice, who named Thomas Warren, Dionyseus Blakeley and John Eidson as appraisers. (3) As can be noted in the copy of the settlement, one of the most interesting things about the document is the various spellings of the Eidson name and the settlement in the name of Edward HITson. In one place Edward Eidson was changed to Hitson. It also contains the signatures of Elijah Watson (who may have been related to Delilah), Dionyseus Blakeley and John Eidson,Sr. Thos. Warren signed with his mark. Administrators of the estate, not completed until 1818, were Henry Hitson and Henry Pagget (sic). Thus it was that when two sons of Edward--Edward and Henry-moved to GA they kept the spelling Hitson and , thereby created the irony that the direct line of Edward, Edward, Edward, Edward, and Edward was changed to Hitson.
The children named in the estate of Edward and Delilah were Edward Jr., Henry, John, Hulda, and Mary. Mary is believed to have m. Samuel Padgett after 1816, although early researchers presumed that the Mary who m. Samuel was a sister to Penelope, the dau. of John, whose children are named by the process of elimination-with the exception of a possible "Mary." Samuel was the son of Josiah and Milly Eidson Padgett. Further reasons for believing Edward's Mary m. Samuel may be found In the family of Milly Eidson. (4)
Edward's estate account included:
One horse 40.00
Cattle--ten head 50.00
One sow and pigs 6.00
Hogs--twenty nine head 25.00
One lot of cotton 4.00

Jerry Shuman Byrson tells the story as it was told to her about a pet bear. It seems Anson and Eliza keep a bear believed to have been raised from a cub. He was so tame that he had the run of the house. He would get upon the dresser and look at himself in the mirror. That was all and good until one day they were entertaining company and the bear started to chase them. People went in all directions to escape the bear, after that it was kept chained to a tree.

It's Spelled E-I-dson by Wanda Carroll Eidson
Published by Gregath Publishing Co., Wyandotte, OK. 74370
Volume I, page 585
HULDA EIDSON, the daughter of John and Hulda (?Padgett) Eidson, was born about 1830 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. The first mention of this Hulda was found in the will of (John) Bush made 15 May 1847 in Edgefield County, and proved 2 August 1847 in which he gave "to Hulda Eidson and her child" and to "my brothers and sisters, daughters, Sarah Ann and Susan." Executor was Manchester Padgett, and witnesses were M.W. Padgett, Josiah Padgett, and Ezekiel Padgett. The reason for this bequeath and its significance is completely unknown. Possibly Hulda was a niece and perhaps her mother was not a Padgett, but a Bush; perhaps the father of her child was a Bush; the speculations are endless. The bequeath does indicate that Hulda had an illegitimate child by 1847 and this child was the daughter named Elizabeth, born 8 October 1846, who was later presumed to be the daughter of Kindred Hurt whom her mother had married. However, Hulda married KINDRED HURT 19 December 1850 in Pike County, Alabama (licence 16 Dec 1850), the Judge of Probate officiating. The couple returned to Edgefield County by 1860 and lived in the Mine Creek area. Kindred was then 31 and Hulda was 30. By 1870, Hulda was widowed, Kindred having been killed in the Civil War, leaving six children at home. They were:
By unknown father:
ELIZABETH HURT"
By Kindred Hurt:
CLARENDER HURT (dau.), b. c1856

James M. Eidson (possibly James Moorman,) the son of William Buford and Mary "Polly" Hewitt Eidson, was born about 1832 in Missouri (probably Washington County.) His mother died at the birth of his brother, Thomas B. Eidson, in 1835 and the two boys were taken by their grandparents to be reared. James married Martha Ellen Maxwell on 5 November, 1851 in Washington County. (Washington County, Missouri marriage book B, page 124)
Cash certificate No. 16187, Jackson, Missouri, shows that James bought, 6 Sep 1854, 80 acres in Township 35 North, Range 3 East (Belleview). In 1860 they were living in Bellview Township with a P.O. address in Caledonia. Living next door were Nelson and Mary L. Maxwell, both born in Virginia, as was Martha. They, age 46 and 42 could have been Martha's parents. (Some records say that she was the daughter of John V. Maxwell.)
In 1867 James filed a suit against Eliza Eidson, his step-mother, John Eidson, Andrew Eidson, and William H. Weldon in Cass County, who were selling some land to James Alien and Andrew Alien without his knowledge and likely without his sharing in the sale. (Cass County, Missouri Sheriff Book T, page 629 and 630.) The fact that the son Francis M's. name did not appear in the document is the reason for the presumption that he had died; William H. Weldon is presumed to have been the husband of Eliza's daughter Cornelia. In 1880 James and Martha lived in Harmoney Township, Washington County, and James was working in lead mining. He died in 1884 and Martha died in 1887. Both are burried in the Webster cemetery in Palmer, Missouri.

LEWIS EIDSON, the son of James and Rhoda Eidson, was born about 1816 or 17 in SC. In 1840 he was in Harris County, Georgia, with his father. He married there 18 Jan 1844, ANGELINE DOBBS, with Calvin Humphrey, J.P. officiating. She was born about 1826 in Georgia. In 1850 they lived in Clarke County, Georgia, and the 5 Dec 1855 Lewis bought land at the Montgomery, Alabama Land Office, H.D. 4924, located in Lee Co., Sec 35 T -19-R-27-E. Lewis enlisted in the Mexican War in 1836 in the place of one Jackson Hornsbay who paid him. He served about 14 months. Louis enlisted in the Confederate Home Guard as a Pvt. in Captain Everett Palmers Co. 15 Jun 1864 in Fayette County, Alabama, by Captain Headen. He was furnished a horse to 24 Jul 1864 and he was A.W.O.L. in the Muster Roll dated, 31 Oct 1864; he was on the Pay Roll dated Cahaba, Alabama, 31 Dec 1864. His military description says that he was 5' 9" tall with black eyes and hair and dark complexion. In 1891 Angeline petitioned for a widow's pension. Her petition was from New Lexington near Spencer in Fayette County, Alabama, which is where they were living in 1860 and 1870 in Township 15, P.O. Handy, AL. In 1880 (the name spelled "Itson" in the census) they had moved to Randolph Coounty, P.O. Lamar, which is where Lewis probably died 30 Sep 1887 of paralysis and gastritis at the age of 80, according to Dr. A. W. Duke. In the death records his name was recorded as "Lewis Idson." Because he died about the same time that his father did, Lewis apparently never took over the care of his sister, Sarah Ann. Angeline died before 1900. They were said to have had 14 children, but several did not live.

Peter Claywell Eidson, the oldest child of Joseph and Milly Claywell Eidson, was born about 1807 in Iredell County, North Carolina. He married in North Carolina, Harriet A. Payton, born about 1813 in North Carolina. (1) They were married in North Carolina about 1830-32 and in 1846 were members of Mt. Pleasant Church in Iredell County. (2) By 1850 they had moved to Gordon County, Georgia, where only nine children were enumerated in the census.
An older daughter had married by then. All were born in North Carolina except the youngest, of whom there is no further record.
By 1860, (about 1852) the family had moved westward to Texas and were living in Red River County where, in 1853, Harriet A. Eidson was deeded in her own right by gift, a certain lot of cattle by Milas Bagwell; strangely, the gift was not recorded until 1861.The relationship between Harriet and Milas is unknown. Peter received a grant of 160 acres of land near Clarksville in Red River County, from Governor Sam Houston the 25 February 1858. By 1870 the family had settled finally in Denton County near Roanoke.
Peter was a carpenter in 1850 and was called a mechanic in 1860. His granddaughter, Gedie, said that he also made shoes for all of the family and taught his sons to do the same. She also said, in an interview 7 May 1978 when she was 90, when asked how their name was pronounced that "ID-son."
